How to Choose the Best New Jigsaw Puzzle for Adults

With so many new puzzle releases available, choosing your next one can be surprisingly difficult.

A beautiful box design may catch your attention, but the artwork, piece count, and puzzle format all affect the experience.

Choose the Right Piece Count

If you're new to puzzling or want something you can finish in a shorter time, a 500-piece puzzle is a good starting point.

For adults looking for a more involved challenge, 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles offer a satisfying balance between difficulty and enjoyment.

If you're an experienced puzzler who enjoys longer projects, consider larger formats or illustrations with more complex details.

The image can make as much difference as the number of pieces. A colourful 1000-piece illustration may be easier to organize than a 500-piece puzzle featuring large areas of similar colours.

Pick Artwork You'll Enjoy Looking At

When choosing a new puzzle, think about the kind of image you enjoy.

Nature lovers may prefer landscapes, wildlife, and gardens. Art enthusiasts often appreciate reproductions of famous paintings or colourful portraits.

If you like books, movies, and storytelling, illustrated scenes inspired by familiar characters or stories can make the experience more engaging.

You'll spend a fair amount of time examining the image, so choose one that continues to interest you.

Try a Different Puzzle Format

If traditional jigsaws are starting to feel familiar, trying a new format can make your next project more exciting.

Three-dimensional puzzles let you assemble buildings, cars, and decorative objects, while some shaped or panoramic puzzles change how you approach the layout.

For someone who already owns several classic jigsaw puzzles, a different format can be a particularly appealing gift.
